Jersey's athletes will receive up to £1,000 in government support to participate in competitions away from the island.
States members voted unanimously, 43:0, in favour of Deputy Raluca Kovacs' amended proposition.
The government has been asked to find a £300,000 pot for Jersey Sport to look after and distribute the funds to clubs or organisations who will support their athletes with their travels and other expenses.
Deputy Raluca Kovacs told the States 'this is not just an investment in our people, it is an investment in Jersey's identity'.
"Our achievers serve as role models, they inspire future generations and bring global recognition to our island.
"We tell our youth to aim high. Let's make sure their ambitions aren't limited to our island's borders."

Sports Minister Constable Andy Jehan thanked Deputy Kovacs for bringing the idea before the Assembly.
"Her passion to make a positive change was clear.
"We have arrived at a proposition which will deliver meaningful change."

The original proposition proposed that athletes, artists, and academics be given £2,000 each for off-island events and a £500,000 pot.
However, Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel wanted to see all of this streamlined.
He says he is pleased that we are going to provide more funding for travel for sports and other activities.
"It does seem that there sadly isn't sufficient travel funding for sport.
"The travel budget at the moment is easily oversubscribed, and that in itself tells me that funding should be made available - so, I think that is the right thing to do."
