A 47-year-old man has been jailed for 19 months by Jersey's Royal Court for assaulting a woman and a police officer.
Leon Chevalier has been handed the prison sentence following his conviction in January for common assault and theft, and further charges of assaulting a police officer and possessing a Class C substance which he had admitted before he went on trial.
The court heard that, on 11 June 2023, Chevalier assaulted a woman at her home and stole some of her medication.
He was arrested the next morning. Whilst in custody he assaulted a male police officer, injuring his face.
Police Constable Polly Wilton, who dealt with the case, said:
“We are committed to investigating and prosecuting all offenders and want to assure victims that there are a number of agencies who are in a position to offer support and guidance through all stages of the criminal justice process.
We work with key partners and advocacy services such as JDAS and the Jersey Women’s Refuge, to encourage victims of crime to report such incidents.”
