More Than 400 Island Energy Customers Register Dissatisfaction

More than 400 households disappointed with Island Energy's £11.56 'goodwill gesture' have registered their dissatisfaction with the Jersey Consumer Council (JCC).

Customers have until Friday 22 March to complete JCC's online survey.

It is working to secure a better offer from the energy company to compensate around 4,000 islanders who were left without gas last October.

Had the energy provider had been regulated, like in the UK, Island Energy would have had to pay £60 for everyday a customer went without gas beyond the first 24 hours.

The outage - in some cases - lasted up to 14 days.

JCC Chair Carl Walker says the more people they hear from, the better.

"If you are somebody that feels unfairly treated by Island Energy, if you feel that you are out of pocket by the outage and that the £11.56 offering does not cover the extra expense that you went through, please jump on our website.

It takes a few minutes to register and it will help strengthen our case for the benefit of everyone. Please do not rely on others to do the hard work.

We are keeping the registration period open for a further week, by which time then we need to close that and move towards approaching Island Energy for a better deal for everyone."

Law firm Sinels is acting on behalf of customers.

Before announcing the 'goodwill gesture', Island Energy increased gas prices in Jersey by 12% - around £13.80 extra a month for the average household.
