Guernsey deputy loses committee support

Policy and Resources says it will not nominate deputy Gavin St Pier when he resigns from the committee to seek re-election.

Guernsey's senior committee Policy and Resources met yesterday (5 May) and its head, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, later issued a statement on their position regarding Treasury Lead Deputy Gavin St Pier:

"Further to Deputy St. Pier’s decision to resign from Policy & Resources, the other four members will shortly invite expressions of interest from any States member who wishes to be considered as the Committee’s preferred candidate.

"For clarity, Deputy St. Pier will not be the Committee’s nomination."

Deputy Haley Camp has already said she is interested in the role, but Deputy Mark Helyar, who has held the Treasury lead previously, has ruled himself out.

Deputy St Pier intends to resign from the committee and seek re-election to test if he has a mandate from the Assembly for the senior role.

It follows his arrest and questioning, alongside his wife, last Friday (1 May) over an allegation that he broke the Code of Conduct under the 1948 Reform Law, something he denies.
