Guernsey's Next Lieutenant-Governor Announced

Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE has been announced as the next Lieutenant-Governor of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Her Majesty The Queen, on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor, has approved the appointment.

Lieutenant General Cripwell will succeed Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder as the Sovereign’s personal representative in the Bailiwick.

He has commented on his appointment.

"I am delighted and extremely honoured to have been chosen to be Her Majesty’s personal representative in the Bailiwick, and I look forward to playing a part in the life of its three jurisdictions.

"Louise and I look forward to meeting Islanders and sharing in the rich history, character and natural beauty of all the islands."

The Lieutenant General is currently Deputy Commander Allied Land Command, the standing headquarters for NATO land forces, which is based in Izmir, Turkey.

Five young people from Guernsey have been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor's cadets. Lauren Walsh, who is a ranger guide; Zara Honey, a member of the Youth Commission's board; Amelie Le Prevost, Guernsey Youth Forum's vice chair; and Sergeant Ellie Duffy from the RAF Air Cadets.

The group was each presented with a personal engraved medal, a woven badge and a certificate at a ceremony last night (7 September).

Details of Lieutenant General Cripwell's arrival and swearing-in ceremony will be announced later this year.
