Six Arrested For Dangerous Driving

Six people have been arrested for dangerous driving in Jersey in the past month.

Police stopped 312 vehicles during February.

110 drivers were given words of advice and 23 referred to DVS.

39 motorists will have to attend Parish Hall Enquiries.

One vehicle was impounded and a further three have been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

The action has been part of the force's Operation Canvas crackdown on anti-social drivers.

The force says a 'significant number' of speeders have also been caught throughout February, including one doing 70mph on Victoria Avenue.

“We know that anti-social driving remains a high priority for islanders, so we wanted to show our commitment to tackling this with a month of intense action.

“The results speak for themselves; speeding and dangerous driving amongst others. Operation Canvas won’t go away and we will continue to use covert and overt tactics to crackdown on all illegal and anti-social driving and riding across the island. Our message to those who continue to use our roads like a race track is; if we catch you driving dangerously, we will seize your vehicle and the courts could make sure you don’t get it back.”  - Inspector Cathy Davison, lead for Roads Policing.

The six people arrested have all been released on police bail while the investigations continue.
