'Stay At Home' This NYE

We're being urged to stay at home to ring in the New Year.

Households in Jersey are not allowed to mix indoors.

Exceptions were made for Christmas Day and Boxing Day only - meaning none of the usual New Year's Eve or New Year's Day celebrations.

The government is reminding islanders that they must not go into other people's homes or gardens.

"Tonight we are asking you to #StayAtHomeforJSY"

This message is being sent via text message to local mobile phone-users:

"Stay at home this NYE.  What you do tonight will affect what we can do in the future.  Help stop the spread of Covid. Celebrate at home with just your household."

The reminder has also been posted on the Government of Jersey's social media channels:

Jersey Police Chief Robin Smith has issued the same warning on what will be a very different New Year's Eve for his officers to police:

A message from our Chief ahead of this New Year’s Eve - we’ve all worked so hard at reducing the spread of the virus,...

Celebrations across the UK have had to be cancelled or moved online - including London's fireworks event and Scotland's Hogmanay festival.
