Victoria College twins with secondary school in Bad Wurzach

A plaque has been unveiled at Victoria College to mark its twinning with a secondary school in Bad Wurzach.

During the Occupation, more than 600 islanders were deported to an internment camp in the German town.

Today, (6 May), on the eve of Liberation Day, Jersey's Victoria College is formally pairing with the Salvatorkolleg, a German private catholic secondary school there.

Three former internees were amongst the guests at today's unveiling.

The town has had a partnership with St Helier since 2002, and the school link aims to further ensure that future generations of students keep alive the shared legacy, through educational exchanges, and learning about those internees and the reconciliation efforts since.

The twinning also commemorates Mr Crumpton, the College Gardien, who was among those deported to Germany.

A first visit to Bad Wurzach is planned for October.
